Rev. Gerald Bridges, Sr., age 87, of Sanford, N.C. passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Central Carolina Hospital. He was born in Shelby, N.C. on October 12, 1925, to the late Benjamin Foy Bridges and Coit Faye King Bridges.
He retired from Cool Springs Baptist Church in Sanford, N.C. in December of 1991, after forty-five years of faithful full-time ministry. He was a devoted husband of 66 years to Marian P. Bridges who also went to be with the Lord on Feb. 12, 2013.
He is survived by one daughter, Nan Bridges Hill of Wake Forest, N.C.; four sons, Gerald Bridges, Jr. and wife Tracy of Dallas, Texas, Steve Bridges and wife Amanda of Hampton, S.C., Larry Bridges and wife Rhonda of Wilson, N.C., and Samuel Bridges and wife Stacey of Paducah, Kentucky; two sisters, Carol Brader of Spartanburg, S.C. and Janice Moore of Spartanburg, S.C.; twenty-one grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. The funeral will be held Friday, March 8, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Cool Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Ira Sutton, Dr. Greg Burriss, Rev. Matt Martin and Mr. Joe Liles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Rev. Bridges fought the good fight according to II Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
